Please check back here regularly for updates from the County of Berks regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, community preparedness and the local, state and federal response.
COVID-19 Local Disaster Emergency Declaration
County of Berks officials reinstated the local disaster emergency declaration for Berks County on December 30, 2021 in response to resurgent COVID-19 issues. This was a direct response to a sudden increase in COVID-19 cases and its impact on healthcare and public safety services.
The declaration is not a cause for alarm, but instead equips the County to modify standard operational processes in order to mobilize quickly to obtain necessary resources and make important emergency decisions. A prior disaster emergency declaration was in place from March 12, 2020 until June 28, 2021.
FEMA to Help Pay Funeral Costs for COVID-19 related deaths
In early April, FEMA began providing financial assistance for funeral expenses incurred after Jan. 20, 2020 for deaths related to coronavirus (COVID-19) to help ease some of the financial stress and burden caused by the pandemic. The policy was finalized on March 24, 2021.
